Sunday Stills: USA, Thailand, Kanchipuram

What are we looking at?

In the Arizona desert, the landscape is sparse with dry dusty plains and rocky mountains peppered with cacti. The cities like Pheonix and Scottsdale provide an oasis with tall gleaming glass buildings, water, trees and city-living. Yet some still choose to live off-the-grid in their own piece of desert in the middle of nowhere.

In the mountains outside Chiang Mai you can still find communities of hill tribes living in ancient ways. In this particular tribe, it’s considered beautiful for women to have long necks. To enhance this effect, they wear multiple brass rings around their neck to slowly stretch it out.

The Grand Canyon is large and mind-blowingly deep from the ground. But, in the air, it’s even more surreal. Giant tears in the earth’s surface reveal gaping, ancient canyons that stretch far down beyond the ground.

A father helps his daughter light a candle in an ancient temple in Kanchipuram. This town houses hundreds of incredible temples with tunnels that spiral out from the centre spire, creating a labyrinth of passageways, decorated in carvings and deities.

There are many characters on the streets of Hollywood… some are just charismatic locals going about their business and others are street performers. It’s not quite clear what this Elvis-inspired character is up to.

California is connected by an artery of impressive highways. Some of them are massively wide, spawning lane after lane and others more narrow that stretch on in a straight direction without a bend in sight. In the desert above Palm Springs, these structures stand out against the backdrop of flat desert plains.
